Your one-year countdown to Windows XP end of support begins today
On April 8th, 2014, Microsoft will end its support for Windows XP (and Office 2003). So expect no more updates, security maintenance or support for Windows XP after that date. Even though that version of our operating system will continue to exist and function.
Companies choosing to stay on Windows XP risk:
- - not only the high cost of purchasing custom support solutions for their unsupported software,
- - but also a lack of security support to address the modern threat landscape and compliance issues,
- - plus a lack of support from ISVs and OEMs providing new applications and hardware for an aging infrastructure.
More than ten years after the launch of Windows XP, it becomes increasingly important for your business to migrate to a modern Windows platform. Not only has the technology evolved since then, but your business’ needs and expectations have too. Not to mention those of your customers.
Modern users demand technologies that fit their personal work styles and allow them to stay productive anytime, anywhere, while businesses have an ever-increasing need to protect their data and ensure security, compliance and manageability. Windows 8 is designed with these specific needs in mind, as is Office 2013. Needs that an 11-year-old operating system can no longer address.
With an ever-increasing range of devices – from desktops over notebooks to tablets, and from type to touch – there is more choice than ever before. There is in fact a device to fit the specific needs and unique scenarios of businesses of any size. You can choose the devices that are right for your business – whether it be a touch device or using a mouse and keyboard – and have a great Windows 8 experience.
Readying a company’s applications and data to move from Windows XP can take a substantial amount of planning and time. We recommend that you start the migration as soon as possible.

Digital Marketing Team wants to welcome a new intern!
Hey everyone!
My name is Michiel, the current intern at the Digital Marketing Team of Microsoft BeLux.
What does the Digital Marketing Team actually do? Well, they’re responsible for all digital activities within Belgium & Luxemburg. They’re a team of facilitators following up on all digital projects, together with the Marcom stakeholders and they also have a number of specializations such as social media, budget management, reporting, website analytics, syncing with the digital agencies, SEO, video management… So quite a lot to handle, and that’s where you might come in!
I have been supporting the team in a variety of aspects differing in size, but definitely equally fun to do. To give you an idea of what I have done so far as an intern, some of my current tasks are language reviews, migrating the blog of Microsoft BeLux, deep diving into social media tools and doing quality checks of websites.
Are you a capable student who recently graduated or is still studying at a college or university following marketing or communications? Do you feel like starting an internship (of minimum 30 working days with the possibility to stay longer) at Microsoft as of April 15th?
Then don’t hesitate and send an email to kris.decoodt[at]microsoft.com!
Review of the Microsoft Surface RT by Peter and Lionel
Two weeks ago, Peter and Lionel won a contest on our Windows Facebook page and were selected to test the new Surface RT. Their mission: use it, play and work with it during one week. We just asked one thing in return: their neutral, fair and unbiased opinion. We were very pleased to read their full reviews covering all major features of the Surface RT in a clear and inspiring style. Discover now how the Surface RT found its way in their daily life:
Review n°1 (NL): Peter Maes
| Pros | Cons |
| Geheugen uitbreidbaar | Geen 3G |
| Type/Touch Cover | Gewicht zou iets lager mogen |
| Microsoft Office standaard meegeleverd | |
| Kickstand | |
| USB aansluiting | |
| Build kwaliteit |
Review n°2 (FR): Lionel Cordier
Live, play, work
Quelle chance !
Work
Thanks a lot to Peter and Lionel for their great reviews. Mission completed guys
